How to play
Type any four-letter word and press Enter. Green means the letter is right and in the right spot, yellow means it is in the word but somewhere else, and grey means it is not in the word. You have six guesses. A new word arrives every day at midnight, and the Unlimited tab lets you keep playing.
Tips for four-letter words
- Vowels first. Most four-letter words have one vowel, and it is usually in the second position: bank, milk, dust. A first guess like rain or tone finds the vowel fast.
- Beware the word families. Endings such as -ake, -ine, -ill and -ock have many possible first letters. When three letters are green, use your next guess to test several candidate first letters at once.
- Silent E. Many answers end in E (cake, home, wide). If E is yellow, try it at the end.
Who it is for
The short version is perfect for a two-minute brain break, for children who are building spelling skills, and for anyone learning English, because the answers are everyday words you will recognise. When it gets too easy, step up to the classic 5 letter word game.
Frequently asked questions
Is the 4 letter version easier?
Usually, because there are fewer letters to find. But short words have many close neighbours — bake, cake, fake, lake, make, rake, take, wake — so a careless guess can still cost you the game.
Does it have its own daily word?
Yes. The 4 letter game has its own daily word, its own streak and its own statistics, separate from the classic five-letter game.
What words are allowed?
Any real four-letter English word. Answers are always common words — never plurals like “cats” or abbreviations.
Is it good for kids?
Yes. Four-letter answers are everyday words, which makes this version a good choice for younger players and English learners.
